Chair of Nonferrous Metallurgy

The Chair of Nonferrous Metallurgy at the Montanuniversität Leoben is considered a national and international contact point for the development of innovative solutions in the field of primary and secondary metallurgy of non-ferrous metals. Its focal points are "Recycling of industrial by-products", "Development and recycling of aluminium alloys" and "Metallurgy of technology metals". The chair possesses a high level of expertise developed over many years of research in the fields of recycling of metal containing residues, the development of alloys and the characterization of metallurgical by-products. Due to the unique infrastructure in Austria, new developments in all non-ferrous metallurgical fields are possible. In this context, a top-blown rotary converter in technical scale, induction and resistance furnaces, a heating microscope, scanning and transmission electron microscope, and DSC, STA and TG equipment are just a few examples. Moreover, a comprehensively equipped laboratory infrastructure is also available for hydrometallurgical tasks. In the project "COMMBY", the Chair of Nonferrous Metallurgy is responsible for the evaluation of suitable processes, the development of innovative processes and the generation of an evaluation scheme for metallurgical by-products.
